Artists winning awards at this year’s annual Winnsboro Art & Wine Festival were recently announced. This much-anticipated event on November 1 and 2 featured exceptional works from 40 professional regional artists. Once again, the festival filled the charming streets of historic downtown Winnsboro, whose Cultural Arts District and artistic community programs are recognized and supported by Texas Commission on the Arts, National Endowment for the Arts, and Texas Historical Commission.
The Best of Show award for the 15th Annual Winnsboro Art & Wine Festival went to Bettine Godwin, a painter and gallery owner whose work, inspired by “movement and vibrant colors,” often depicts Texas’s natural landscapes.
“Art shows are not just about selling for me,” Godwin says, “but rather getting to share bits of something I truly enjoy.” Godwin’s Best of Show award includes a $500 prize.
Orvilla McDaniel of Orvilla’s Creations won second place and a $250 prize for her one-of-a-kind wire-woven jewelry, which incorporates gemstones, pearls, and shells as focal points.
Third place and a $125 prize was awarded to Blue Buffalo Art.
All of the fine art showcased at the 2024 Winnsboro Art & Wine Festival was carefully curated by a jury committee of artists prior to acceptance. During the event, a second panel of judges evaluated the artists’ collections on-site, ultimately selecting three winners to receive show awards.
“Every submission to the festival reflects the high quality of art and talent of our participating professional artists, making all entries award-worthy,” said Cyndie Ewert, Winnsboro Art & Wine Festival chairperson. “We are thrilled that more than 3,500 guests experienced not only the stunning art but also wine tastings from regional wineries, delicious local cuisine and live music. This event has become a beloved tradition for many visitors from East Texas and beyond. Winnsboro has firmly established itself as a community that celebrates the arts, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a weekend or longer getaway.”
The Art & Wine Festival is just one of many programs hosted by the Winnsboro Center for the Arts throughout the year. Visit the WCA website for a full calendar of events.
