The Texarkana Regional Arts & Humanities Council (TRAHC) presents “Jiggity Jog,” a dynamic and playful exhibition by Texarkana native Will Bryant through April 19. The exhibition features paintings, prints, drawings, soft sculptures, and collaborations with glass sculptor Austin Fields and textile designer Kyle Bunting.
Bryant is an artist, designer and illustrator now based in Austin. His commercial collaborations include brands like Austin City Limits, Nike, and Whole Foods among others. Visit his website for more information on his work.
This exhibition is more than just a showcase for Bryant; it’s a heartfelt return to the community that shaped him.
“It’s an incredible honor to be able to share this collection of work with the community that helped raise me,” he says. “As a kid growing up in Texarkana, I had no idea that I would be an artist or designer. In some ways, art saved me. I was not great at school in the traditional sense, but I always saw things differently than others around me did. I want a kid from Pleasant Grove Elementary or Redlick Elementary to be able to see my work and think, ‘Huh! I could make a painting like that.’ And they could. I hope they do. Rather than making exclusive work only to be seen in galleries, I have alway gravitated towards making work that people could experience more easily — like murals in public places, uniforms for the Austin Spurs, or patterns on a cup of ice cream. After all, I’m just a kid from a small town. I didn’t grow up visiting galleries or studying art movements that informed my view of the world, but art is everywhere, and I hope that my work feels approachable, comfortable, familiar.”
The Regional Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and, like all of TRAHC’s visual art exhibits, is free to the public. School and civic group tours are available upon request.
